Playa del Águila, known as “Eagles’ Beach,” is located in the south-east of Gran Canaria.
This beach is the quieter alternative to the nearby Playa del Inglés, and it offers way more services than its two neighbors – Playa de Tarajalillo and Playa del Besudo. But “Eagles’ Beach,” with its steady and strong winds, is first and foremost a perfect windsurfing spot and is also suitable for beginners when the wind is moderate. You’ll mainly encounter young sports enthusiasts here!
Águila beach in Gran Canaria
At “Eagles’ Beach” you can fly with the wind in the truest sense of the word! This is because here at Playa del Águila you’ll find top conditions for windsurfing! For bathers, the beach is quieter than the nearby Playa del Inglés and the tourist center of San Augustin. Playa del Águila is easy to find: an exit near kilometer 49 on the GC-500 brings you directly here. From the car park, you can already see the beach, and an electronic display board will show you the air and water temperature and the wind speed. The few meters to the beach are not wheelchair accessible, but easy to manage on foot.
Playa del Águila is a beach of sand and stones with a picturesque backdrop of numerous palm trees and a historic lighthouse. Natural vegetation, consisting of bushes and palm trees, provides shade here on hot days, so you don’t necessarily have to bring a sunshade. The slope into the water is gentle, and in many places, it is almost exclusively sand underfoot, so no bathing shoes are required.
The bathing crowd are mostly older couples from the holiday apartments in the resort, and windsurfers and their equipment are spread out all along the beach (there’s even a windsurfing school here)….
