There’s no doubt that cruises can whisk you away to far-off destinations and introduce you to all new sights and sounds, but there’s more to stepping aboard a cruise ship than just that. The cruise experience starts from the moment you make your way onto the vessel and doesn’t stop till you regretfully step off again.

There’s no better way to get a feel for what cruise life is really going to be like than seeing and hearing from real cruise fans who’ve been there and done that. Check out the video below which has been created entirely from cruise fan footage –  and if you’re still curious about what it’s like to cruise, read on to discover comments from those who’ve gone before. First time cruiser didn’t really expect cruising to be my thing. Carnival exceeded my expectations. Great food. Great friendly service and staff. Clean facilities. Nothing really to fault at this price point.
Jane C (Carnival Legend, Carnival)

It’s an easy holiday if your life is hectic: get aboard, relax, get fed, room cleaned, entertainment always happening. We found unlike most holidays where you’re looking for a place to eat lunch/dinner & sightseeing or things to keep you occupied, a cruise is easy – all you could want in one place, no driving! We will be going on another cruise this year.
Gary W (Pacific Dawn, P&O)

What a great way to holiday. So relaxing. The ship was so clean and staff so happy and friendly. I expected sea sickness but was fine – do not let that thought stop you from cruising.
Raymond D ( Carnival Spirit, Carnival)

Loved this ship. Wonderful for families or couples. Would go again in a heartbeat.
Leanne M (Explorer of the Seas, Royal Caribbean)

I had read mixed reviews and as we had never cruised before, we went with fairly low expectations. How wrong could we have been. From arriving at Brisbane Cruise Port to disembarking ten days later – everything was SUPERB! Fantastic staff, clean cabins, plenty to do for all tastes, unlimited food ranging in style BUT always of good quality and served with a smile.
Stephen (Sea Princess, Princess)

Cruises are an excellent time to try as many kinds of food as possible.

The food in The Pantry was superb, no complaints whatsoever. Food was to an acceptable heat and highly presentable, staff immaculate in their dress. Waterfront restaurant was superb.
Julie B (Pacific Jewel, P&O)

The food on Princess Cruises is always very good. We went traditional dining where we find the service better than anytime dining, you have the same waiters and table each night and the same table companions which by the end of the cruise become friends.
Mike A (Golden Princess, Princess)

The food on board was amazing and no problem if you wanted a particular meal, mention to waiter and they will arrange for the following night, we visited Jamie Oliver’s Italian restaurant along with Wonderland, for what you get and the presentation is well worth extra price.
Trevor H (Ovation of the Seas, Royal Caribbean)

We enjoyed the various bars which all had signature cocktails, the bands and singers were fabulous and even took requests. The food was in abundance, from the free eateries to the fine dining we were catered for no matter our tastes or desires, offering gluten free and vegetarian options.
Sonya W (Carnival Spirit, Carnival)

Loved the food in both the Windjammer and the Sapphire Restaurant. Daughter and boyfriend ate twice in Giovannis and said food was great. He is a chef by trade and liked the food on the ship.

Cruise ship entertainment can be quite spectacular

Activities & Entertainment

I enjoyed the entertainment and did a couple of special activities which kept me occupied. I guess everyone has a different experience but for me, it was a very enjoyable time and would I do it again? Definitely.
– Diane C (Pacific Aria, P&O)

The entertainment was amazing, lots of shows at all times and the night production shows were flawless.
Aliye B (Explorer of the Seas, Royal Caribbean)

Comedy shows were brilliant – definitely recommended for first timers!
Jade (Pacific Jewel, P&O)

I did zumba twice, would have done more if there were more classes. Attended nearly all the seminars about body and health which I thought were really good.
Rukshana K (Sea Princess, Princess)

Our 15 year old was not excited about the cruise but went to the X-Club and made lots of friends, we did not see much of him and when it was time to get off he wanted to stay on ship. Very sad he was that it was over.
Sherry S (Celebrity Solstice)

The Isle of Pines is a South Pacific cruise favourite destination.

We have not been to Papua New Guinea before and we loved it, would certainly go again it has unspoiled beauty and the locals were wonderful.
– Mike A (Golden Princess, Princess)

There were many highlights one of which was cruising in Milford, Doubtful and Dusky Sounds. We had visited the area by road and on foot but the day cruising was a lifetime memory.
– John W (Celebrity Solstice, Celebrity)

Mystery Island & Lifou mainly consisted of swimming and snorkelling – but both very nice spots. Beautiful clear water. Lifou you can walk up to the old Church as well as a great look out, and then head back to the main beach and swim.
– Jason B (Carnival Spirit, Carnival)

The Isle of Pines is truly a beautiful place with the hugh pines growing on the island. The water is just as clear as on all of the other South Pacific Islands.
– Ian N (Pacific Aria, P&O)

The Maasdam is a beautiful ship. Surroundings very impressive and could not be faulted..having a choice of two pools on a smaller ship was good and the plenty of deck chairs made for a very relaxing holiday.
– Margaret L (Maasdam, Holland America)

The ship is just wonderful. It is BIG but is so well laid out we never had trouble finding our way around.
Jacqueline H (Ovation of the Seas, Royal Caribbean)

The ship was lovely, the suite was so comfortable and spacious.
– Glenn B (Pacific Jewel, P&O)

Loved the cruise. Balcony cabin was excellent – having an extra long balcony was perfect for relaxing away from the crowds.
– Gordon (Carnival Legend)

The staff aboard a cruise ship are there to make sure your voyage is enjoyable as possible.

The White star service was far superior to any other cruise lines and staff were extremely professional and always polite going out of their way to assist. Every staff member acknowledged you with a smile as they passed by.
– Aren P (Queen Mary 2, Cunard)

The cabins were spotless, all the staff from the cabin stewards to the wait staff looked after all of us extremely well.
– Susan (Pacific Aria, P&O)….
